Ben’s Taylor University Reunion

This is Tricia writing about attending this weekend’s reunion with Ben. Ben will have to write his own blog.

At any rate we got an invitation to Ben’s 10 year college reunion a couple weeks after Isaac was born and I thought it might be a fun trip at a good point in our lives. Ben always talks fondly of his time at Taylor University and in the Taylor University Sounds but I had never even been to see the campus. So we packed up Isaac for our first road trip as a family and went with Ben on a trip down memory lane.

It was a beautiful weekend and a lovely fall drive. (We took a “scenic” route by accident). We met up with Nate and Becca – friends of ours that now live in Cincinnati and then later that afternoon with Marco and Julie (and Lily). We visited the music building, Ben and Marco’s old college dorm and dorm room, the bell tower, and the “dungeon”. Isaac had a good time but hasn’t quite made up his mind whether he will follow his father’s footsteps by going there. (Personally I loved the University but tuition is up to $30,000 a year – can’t imagine what it will be at when Isaac is eligible – we may need to look a little closer to home and our budget!)

I think what struck me the most was that everyone we spoke to talked about what God was doing in their life, or how God was growing them, or how we could pray for others who weren’t able to attend. Having never attended a Christian school it struck me as unusual – a good unusual. I am use to having to think about who I am talking to, whether they will be offended, etc. It was great to pray as a body of believers before a meal and to be among so many other like minded folks. What a great environment. I am grateful Ben had the opportunity to attend there.

At any rate, the reunion dinner was great. Seeing old friends again was great. Meeting Ben’s friends from 10 years ago was great. And Isaac was well behaved on his first road trip. All in all a good weekend.
