Happy 6 Months Little Man!

IMG_0076.jpg

Oh my goodness! I think I am going to shed some tears writing, reading, rereading this post. My little baby is growing up so terribly fast. I love it and loathe it all at the same time. He is so terribly wonderful I can hardly keep my heart inside my chest it swells so much just thinking of him. He is such a joy to Ben and I.

We often talk of having another but lately I am a bit apprehensive as I just want to soak up every moment with him and give him my complete attention. I’m sure soon enough he will rather have me doting over another sibling than over him anyway. And, of course, there is the whole not wanting to be a “helicopter” parent. But you get my drift.

Well, we have gone through a great many changes again this month. It hardly seems possible! Here are some of the highlights:

1. I gasped at 5 months and joked that it might not be too long before 12 month clothes. I really was “joking”. After all, I had everyone purchase 6-9 months clothes for Christmas “knowing” those would last through the winter. WRONG! Early last week we moved into 12-18 month clothes. The sad part about that is that many of them aren’t that big on him. *sigh*

2. Go, Go Gadget LEGS (and arms, and torso, and. . .) – We have a Ben Jr. on our hands for sure! We had his 6 month appointment at the beginning of this week. He was in the 50% for head size, a little over 50% for weight coming in at 17 pounds 14 ounces, and 95% for height at 28.5 inches! Yikes! I think he is going to be as tall as me when he is 4!

3. On sadder news, we had our first major illness this month. Actually, just this week. In the middle of the night, the night before Isaac’s 6 month appointment he started running a temperature. When I went in at 5:30 am it was 102 degrees! Yikes! We gave him some Tylenol and waited until our 8:30 am appointment. Turns out he had an ear infection. I had NO CLUE! So we got antibiotics but no shots! Good for Isaac I suppose. Although we will be going back in 3 weeks for those anyway.

4. Yea, I thought he was vocal last month, boy was I in for a surprise. And his timing is just impeccable. I was invited to help cater a photo shoot that Ben was on for Level 3 Media and was told that it would be great because I could bring Isaac. There were these great rooms to hang out in, EXCEPT, when we got there the rooms turned out to be all parallel to the recording space. Not usually a problem unless your son just discovered his vocal cords and is trying to see how HIGH a pitch he can make them sing! It made for a very interesting day of me trying to quiet Isaac and he thinking it was a game and yelping louder and louder. We eventually left. I am glad that he is enjoying his voice though.

5.Isaac watched his first Presidential Inauguration! I think that we have seen about the same amount at this point. I actually was doing laundry and chose the 60 seconds that the President was being sworn in to go put a load from the washer to the dryer. DUH!

6. We had our first Valentine’s Day as a family! Mommy is not a huge Valentine’s Day fan but it was great to spend some time with each other, it had been quite a few weekends since that had happened.

7. Tooth #2 made an appearance on the bottom next to its counterpart and both have been really growing. It is so much fun to see his toothy little grin! (Not so fun if your finger accidentally ends up in his mouth, but cute). And it appears that tooth #3 and #4 on the top are on their way. He is drooling, gnawing, running low grade fevers, you name it.

8. Eating, eating, eating. I am still making my own baby food which is so much fun. We managed to move off of peas and have now tried a variety of vegetables and fruits. So far he has had sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips (didn’t even know what these were two weeks ago), green beans, peas, pears, peaches, and bananas. On the second time through he doesn’t seem to be fan of carrots so much. I think he gets this from Ben!

We started with rice cereal and recently moved to oatmeal. Oatmeal seems to have less of an effect on the spitting up than the rice cereal so Isaac isn’t the only one enjoying the oatmeal.

9. “Roll me down the river” or just around the living room, either will be just fine! The boy likes to move. He has perfected his rolling this month. Rolling any where and everywhere. Two of my favorite moments from this month come from rolling episodes. The first one, I was vacuuming the living room and put Isaac down on the side of the room that I had already vacuumed. I left the vacuum to go get something from the other room and when I returned this is what I found! A smiling little man – so proud of himself! Can’t wait to show him this picture when he is older and remind him he WANTED to vacuum!

The other happened just yesterday morning while I was (surprise, surprise) on the computer. Isaac was playing on the upstairs play area when I turned around and saw this! So cute! He has learned to play his dad’s burrito game already!

10. Sleeping. He still sleeps like a champ. Pretty sure he gets this from me! He is still a 12 hour a night sleeper and takes 2-3 naps a day totaling 3-5 hours. Depends on whether Dad is watching him or not. For some reason he doesn’t like to sleep when Ben is around. Probably because he is so much fun!

His new thing is to cuddle with this frog blanket our friend Tracey got for him before he was born. He loves just rubbing it up against his face (or chomping on his leg)!

11. He isn’t really sitting up on his own yet. He tends to still topple over. We have been using the Boppy to support him and that seems to have helped a lot.

12. He WANTS to crawl so bad. In fact, the last couple of days he has been getting up on his knees and rocking back and forth! (Folks, I am not sure I am ready for this!) He just doesn’t seem to have the arm strength to support himself yet. I am certain that I will likely be writing about crawling before the next monthly update.

13. He LOVES our cat, Misty Mae. (I am glad that he does because she really isn’t on my *like* list right now). He will stop WHATEVER he is doing if Misty walks by. Crying, laughing, playing, eating, pooping, you name it he will stop just to catch a glimpse of that silly cat. And she is just ornery.  She sits just out of his reach doing her “business” and flaunting her stuff. Should be fun to see what happens when he can crawl!

14. Daddy (Ben) is by FAR the coolest person on the planet! He loves that man like no other! I try to play the same games but they just don’t work for me. I love that Ben is such an amazing father to him. Not only in his play but in his devotion, admiration, and discipline.

15. Games we like to play: LOTS! I think that they are too numerous to mention at this point.

16. His FAVORITE time of day is right before his bath when he is NUDE! Just LOVES it! Still loves the bath too. He is excited about sitting up and splashing with his hands and his feet now. I really get wet when I give him a bath anymore. I am excited to take him to the indoor pool soon!

Check out the gallery for more cute pics! (I will try to post a video in the next week or so too).

Personally, I found his finding his voice at the shoot very cute! Of course, it was not my child yelling. Hee, hee :) Just so you know, Ralph never heard him. :)
