Isaac 4 Months!

IMG_3316.JPG

Yesterday (12/20) was Isaac’s 4 month birthday. For all you people that don’t have kids you are likely thinking “why must these people give an update EVERY month!” Sheesh! I suppose that would be because things change so quickly! You really have to stop and realize the milestones and moments because they are flying by so quickly. Most of the time I feel like if I don’t write them down or savor them I will likely blink and a teenager will be standing before me. That and I can’t believe how much he changes from month to month. It really is incredible!

Here are some of the milestones and moments to note:

1. He is growing like a weed (on steroids). I’m not sure what they put in that formula but apparently Isaac likes it! I can’t believe how much he has grown in just one month. At his 4 month checkup this week he was 15 lbs 12.6 oz and 26 inches long!

In one month he has gone from wearing 3-6 months clothes to wearing 6-9 month clothes!

2. He is still a very content and contemplative baby. He barely ever cries, he does cry every now and again, but for the most part he is fairly calm. He does like to concentrate and stare at things. He often has a furrowed brow as he studies an object or person.

3. Whereas last month he couldn’t get enough of his play mat and “Star” who sings tunes to him when he kicks, this month he has little interest in the play mat and “Star”. He wants to be up and about. Problem is he can’t quite sit or move on his own so he gets frustrated. His new thing is to sit in the Exersaucer and play with the various toys at his fingertips. He can’t really do this for very long as he gets tired from holding his head and body up. But he loves it for awhile. Otherwise, he just really enjoys being held by someone or being propped/sat up to look around.

4. He is obsessed with the television. I am not sure how this is happening. Ben and I don’t even really watch TV. He most enjoys the floating pictures on the screen when we have the Apple TV on but aside from that, daddies obsession with watching movie trailers, and grandmas obsession with watching Dancing with the Stars while babysitting him, he doesn’t get to watch TV. Perhaps this is his fascination with it, it’s uniqueness!

5. Is it bath time yet? By far, Isaac’s favorite time of the day is bath time! It starts out with Ben (or mom who isn’t as good at it) starts playing the “I’m going to get your arm” game as we attempt to take off his clothes. This gets some pretty big smiles and even a laugh or two out of him. Then the excitement grows as the clothes come off!

Next is tub time. The last week or two I have been teaching him to “kick” in the tub, thus causing a splash! He wasn’t so sure at first but now will start kicking up a storm when we say “kick, kick, kick”! I think it is awesome! Ben thinks it is going to get old fast – especially since we are starting to get wet when we bath him. But it brings such a big smile to his face when he realizes that he has done it!

Next is towel time. I am of the belief that he enjoys being wrapped in the towel and hanging on the diaper changer almost as much as the bath itself. All of a sudden he starts talking up a storm! However, I am not so sure he realizes that there is no splashing on the diaper changing table because he gets really excited and starts kicking like in the bath tub.

And immediately following the bath is the BOTTLE! Food, we love food around here! Ahhh, life is good during nighttime bath time.

6. He likes his “daddy” games. Ben is by far the “fun” parent. He is always making up new games to play with him. Here are some of this months favorites:

  • Pedal, pedal – Ben lays him on his lap, on his back, and pedals his feet like a bicycle. He starts out slow saying “pedal, pedal, pedal. . .” and he progressively gets faster as he goes. This is especially helpful when trying to work out a poop. :)
  • “Give me that arm!” – this is a game where you tug at Isaac’s shirt sleeve asking Isaac where his arm is to which he resists and laughs! He also appears to be a bit ticklish under the arms so this whole ordeal is really quite amusing. Not sure how this game is going to be helpful in the future!

  • Peek-a-Boo – no explanations needed here. Just a side note that the more Isaac seems to be “scared” by the peek-a-boo the more he seems to enjoy it!
  • Roll Over – this is where I grab his legs and roll him from side to side encouraging him to roll over soon! Not sure there is much motivation on his part to do this when your mom will do it for you! That and he loves this game!

7. Rolling Over – We’re so close! In the last few days he has started the attempt to rollover all on his own. He is so close! He occassionally does a stomach to back role on his own but his arm seems to get in the way from back to stomach. He is trying though. His favorite time to try is when I put him down to bed. Now we get to watch in the video monitor as he turns himself all over the bed before falling asleep. We are always curious how we are going to find him!
